Establishment and development of general music education in China

Abstract

In European music education, students are trained rigorously in technical skills, particularly in mastering Western instruments like the piano, violin, and flute. This focus allows them to develop the precision and artistry required to perform at an international level. In contrast, Chinese music education continues to prioritize traditional instruments and music, with relatively few opportunities for students to receive systematic training in Western instruments. As a result, many students struggle to achieve the technical proficiency needed to compete in global music arenas.
