Об одном типе умбоновидных подвесок в Витебском Подвинье и Оршанском Поднепровье

Abstract

The article is devoted to umbonovidny pendants with volutes found in the settlements of the Dnieper-Dvina culture in the area between the Dnieper and Western Dvina in Belarus. The author suggests that flat pendants with volutes and Scythian type conical earrings, known among the antiquities of the Milograd culture, could serve as their prototype. An impulse from the south led to the formation of an original type of pendants, which became widespread in the Vitebsk Podvinie and in the northern part of the Orsha Podniprovya not earlier than the 2nd and 1st centuries BC. The evolution of jewelry went along the line: flat pendants with volutes → umbonovidny pendants with volutes and a long rod in the form of a loop without decor → large umbonovidny pendants with volutes and an openwork richly decorated rod.
