Abstract:	Im Artikel handelt es sich um die Rolle der Muttersprache im Fremdsprachenunterricht. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Geschichte des Fremdsprachenunterrichts sowie die Fragen, welche Moglichkeiten der bewusste Einsatz der Muttersprache im Fremdsprachenunterricht eroffnet und auf welche Weise er zum Erreichen von Lernzielen beitragen kann. = The article deals with the role of the mother tongue in foreign language teaching. The focus is on the history of foreign language teaching as well as the questions of which possibilities the conscious use of the mother tongue in foreign language teaching opens up and in which way it can contribute to the achievement of learning goals.
